Bafta Elevate was conceived and launched by Debs Paterson, Ivana MacKinnon and Pia Pressure with BAFTA - to address in pragmatic terms the hiring discrepancy relating to female directors in high end TV. The program was formed via a research period of six months, an open application to BAFTA which received over 200 submissions from qualified female directors, and then a list of 15 directors selected by commissioners and execs in UK high end TV.

The focus of the program has been both industry relationships and a peer-to-peer community at a talent level.

The initiative was called one of Bafta's proudest achievements by Chair Amanda Berry in her opening speech at the 2019 Bafta Film Awards.

Elevate is now in its third year.
